Chapter 11

After cleaning up the blood from my shirt, I look presentable to the public. I’m down 13 health. No more bleeding. I’m dusty from falling and the bottom of one of my jeans legs are grimy, but again, I’m presentable.

Drinking a coffee while in the car, I try to breathe and relax. I have some time before my appointment and need to clear my head. If I can’t get a dungeon figured out, it’s best to at least get myself a warehouse today, before things get worse.

Still…I’m nowhere near strong enough or prepared to do a dungeon. If that’s level 1, I’m scared to even approach anything else.

How in the hell am I supposed to level up? It’s going to take forever if I don’t have help. Unless I do more of those random events, but again, random. How often do they happen?

I rub the back of my head, still feeling the sting from that fall.

That could have gone worse really easily.

Then I would have nothing.

I got lucky.

I can’t risk doing any other dangerous events. I’ll have to level up in the wild but just… killing people?

Well no, I can do so by training, but that’ll take a long time too.

Guessing that’s why Ryan said it’ll take a few years for me to be useful.

Great, just great.

Well… there’s got to be something I’m missing. Ryan said we’re only shown information we understand. Certain bits of information only pop up when I figure to look for it.

Drinking more coffee, I gander around.

This warehouse building complex is a bit dingy and shitty. L-shaped on a corner and only half capacity from the looks of things. Mostly pick up trucks and vans in the center parking lot. None made in the last 10 years. There’s a roofing company, one of those bouncy house companies, an upholstery shop and some place with a bunch of wooden furniture in it. No sign to that last one. But they have their front roll door open and it’s just a mess in there.

Honestly, this is perfect. As long as I’m careful of crackheads, no one is going to bother me.

Some time passes and I walk out to the unit I was inquiring about, unit 107. There are only ten total units from what I can tell. The general area has more buildings like this. Cement block construction. Fifty some odd years old. Some others are steel buildings like the Cestral warehouse I was just at, just smaller… and without zombies… I hope.

Shaking my head… fuck I hope none of those things got out.

“Are you Lucas?” A lanky older man in his late 60s walks up to me.

Who is he?

Eric Donaldson - Level 4

NPC for sure.

He’s wearing faded, worn out, dirty jeans with some various black stains on them. Some fresh, some old. His dark gray shirt is no different. It has a few tears in it and he doesn’t have the top three buttons done. With blackened, weathered hands, I feel like he’s a mechanic of some sort.
